Great Mines to dig at!! Take lots of water, sunscreen and something to sit on. It gets hot! I have been to the mines 3 times. It's not easy to dig. It takes a lot of work but I found something every time.

We are planning to be in the area in June and want to visit the mine. Do we need to make reservations?

My friend and I went out there last year and stayed for a couple days to dig. It was great finding some high quality black fire opal, but if your going, prepare to work your but off. The clay banks are unforgiving. If you think you're going to just chip away and find opals you got another thing coming. This is real work and it gets very hot. Bring a sharp pick, pleanty of water and a foam pad to sit on. If you want to look like someone kicked your _ss, don't take something to sit on and see what you look like after your done. Oh, wear gloves! It's a lot of fun and if you can get out there to dig, go for it. It's worth the drive. The owners a fantastic and it's very beautiful out there. Good luck.
