Years ago I found a piece of black opal in the tailings. I would like to know if this can be cut. I had cut a few other pieces from your mine and was successful. I would think cutting this black opal maybe risky. Should I soak it in mineral oil before cutting? Or, is there a better approach. I would appreciated any suggestion.Best regards,Carole Wong

We saw your opal mines on the travel channel. We left Reno at 9am and got caught in traffic and it took some time to find the mine. The drive was fun and the anticipation was great! We arrived late at the mine at about 2:00 and couldnt get digging until 2:30 pm. We only had an hour and a half digging but the opals we found were awesome! We loved the trip! We will come back with an RV to stay at your campgrounds! We thank you so much for your hospitality and assistance while digging in the mines! Sherlonda and I are still cleaning our the clay from our opals and loving every minute of it! Even in the short time of our dig the few tailings I took with me have opals in them! WOW!!!!!! We will be back! Thank you so much!

We are very interested in becoming rock hounds. Just the thought of digging in the ground to find something that has been there for hundreds of years intrigues us. It's not about the value of the gem just about finding it and having fun doing it.
