Well, this is year 14 or 15, I lose track. Hit one of the finest black opal specimens in all these years on this visit on 09/09/11. It's about the "diggin", the opal is a bonus. Thank you Mark, Jake, and Julie for your considerations! Thanks to Paul Jr. for the Matrix specimen.Hope you can keep the Northern Lights bank open a for a another few years, there is nothing like it!!!!! "Big Jim"

My Mother sister and I visited in early 2010 and had the best time ever. However, my Mom died in May of this year so coming back will be hard, but we are planning on making the trip anyway. I still have some material that I carted home and work over every once in a while.

Hi everyone!!! We are on our way for our regular camp and digging!! Northern Lights.... can't wait!!! Yay... Finally the weather is starting to be better. Your new webpage is AWESOME!!!! Love the links and new pictures. Good job
See you soon, Gloria

Lori and I spent a day at the mine and had a blast! Did not find anything of "size" but found some cool specimens. The great part was witnessing the couple next to us finding a very nice specimen quoted as being worth well over $5000, maybe up to $15000. Very very beautiful.

We spent a day there on the 19th of sept 2011 and came home with some nice opalized wood specimens and a few nice fire opals as well. Not to bad for our first time. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Look forward to going back in 2012 with some friends that are now interested. Good thing too because getting these little buggers is hard work

My husband and I came to the Royal Peacock the last week of July 2011.
From the moment we arrived, we were thoroughally pleased with the down-home hospitality we were greeted with!!The wilsons are wonderful people and each member of their staff was courteous, helpful and welcoming. We only dug one day (too out of shape to go for a 2nd day!)but found quite a few very nice small pieces to take home with us. Do not go expecting to become rich. It's all "luck of the draw". The staff tells you what to look for and if you work hard, have a keen eye (and a little luck) you can walk away with some nice gems. Sometimes ppl strike it big, sometimes ppl don't. Come for the experience and the adventure or don't come at all!! Expect to work your rear end off! We will definitely be back later this year and in much better shape to dig that 2nd day!!!

Absolute love the website. I've been trying to get enough time off to spend some time digging for the opals and having a good time. This year I will be there with my daughter and grandson. We are all very excited about finally being able to make it over and find the beautiful opals!!

My husband and I visited your mine Oct 16, 2010. Your last day open. No other visitors were there but us. Great time with grandson (I forgot his name). He was so delightful and helpful to us old folks. I did find some sparkle and was so excited to take it home. Since then I have worked on getting the matrix off and trying to polish some of the best. I am a novice to all this. Joined a Rock Club to get some pointers but the best is seeing if there is some fire in what I found. Thanks for allowing us to come just before you closed for the season. We want to come back someday if we can. I am going to give a report about our experiences at the mine to the Rock Club next meeting. Thanks again.

Just looking around for dig sites. I am fond of Coober Peedy but was looking for something closer as I live in Oregons capital. Kind Regards and great digs!

My son and I went last June 2010. We didn't find much but I really want to go back and try again. The country around there is very beautiful! If you stay at Denio Junction there are no refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms so bring a big ice chest. Otherwise you have to buy food from the motel$$. Make sure your tires are good and gas up in Winnamucca because the Peacock is out in the middle of nowhere!. I can hardly wait to go back again in 2011.

I visited Royal Peacock Mine on July of 2010 and had a great time. Everyone was very friendly and I was able to meet new friends. I was lucky to walk away with a few little treasures and one nice size piece. Now the work of cleaning, to see what I have. I also uncovered two nice size pieces of would over 12 inches long and 3 to 4 inches in diameter. Looks like color may be coming through just setting on my kitchen table, possibly may turn out to be really nice pieces. Just need to take some time to learn how to best fix the wood. May be calling the Royal Pecock for assistance in working on the wood. Thanks again for the great time at the mine, driving up to the mine in my sports car was an extra thrill . Thanks, Don

My sister and I arrived at the Royal Peacock Mine after planning the trip for 30 years. We were not disappointed. It was a wonderful experience. There was a late winter/spring in Virgin Valley, but we enjoyed it all, the snow, sleet, rain, and sunshine. We stayed for 11 days in the well stocked trailer. The scenery is magnificent and I took some lovely pictures. The Royal Peacock Mine is next to the Sheldon Wildlife Refuge and we saw burros, wild horses, Canadian geese, hawks, many other birds. We dug in the bank 2 times and did tailings once. We got some nice material and had a wonderful time. Julie and her father were very helpful and such nice people. We are very happy we planned for a long stay. The Opalholics were a great bunch and we had a good time getting to "talk story" with them.

After a 7 year wait, 15 hours in car, we got to the mine just after dark on May 16. It rained all night. Next day was a washout till noon. Once we got to work at the bank it began to rain again. We packed up and headed home. Once home we discovered a 22 carrat limbcast of white fire opal. It wasnt easy but I'll be back soon. The Wilson family Rocks! Miners from Montana. Home of Dead Top uranium agate.
